If you’re a resident of Maricopa County, Arizona, you might want to prepare for a long wait on election results. Despite the advancements in voting technology, election officials are warning residents that it could take between 10 and 13 days to fully count the votes this year.
Election officials are urging “patience” as they work through what they claim to be an unusually large number of ballots, a situation they attribute to “higher interest” in the election. While longer ballots and increased voter turnout are common explanations for delays, many in the public are wondering why these issues persist—especially in a county that has had more than its fair share of election controversies.

With over 2.1 million votes expected to come in, and only 400,000 cast so far, Maricopa County’s Deputy Elections Director, Jennifer Liewer, has been vocal about the timeline. “We do expect that it will take between 10 and 13 days to complete tabulation of all of the ballots that come in, but we ask for the community’s patience,” Liewer told 12News. She stressed the importance of accuracy over speed, adding, “We want to make sure that this is a secure process, but we also want to make sure that it is an accurate process.”
