Country music star John Rich has sparked a wave of nostalgia among truck enthusiasts after showing off a customized military vehicle that many Americans believe represents everything modern automakers have abandoned.
At a time when manufacturers are pouring billions into electric vehicles packed with sensors, touchscreens, and software updates, Rich’s latest ride is drawing attention for a completely different reason: simplicity.
The singer, entrepreneur, and recipient of the 2025 Bob Hope Military Award recently posted a video featuring his restored military-spec M35 “Deuce and a Half.” Within 24 hours, tens of thousands of viewers had flocked to the clip, with many praising the rugged machine as a symbol of an era when vehicles were built to survive almost anything.
For many Americans frustrated with rising vehicle prices, increasingly complex technology, and concerns over reliability, Rich’s truck struck a chord.
