As Election Night approaches, the possibility of a definitive result seems more elusive than ever, with Democrats appearing to prepare the stage for extended ballot counting—a process that could take weeks. Vice President Kamala Harris has already hinted at this uncertainty, revealing that her legal teams are preparing for a scenario where former President Donald Trump declares victory prematurely, long before all mail-in ballots have been counted.
Kamala Harris’s comments come as state election officials across the country admit they are facing significant challenges in processing votes, especially mail-in ballots, which have been a source of controversy since the 2020 election. In Pennsylvania, Secretary of State Al Schmidt has acknowledged the state’s struggle to manage the process efficiently. “Once again, Pennsylvania will take days, if not weeks, to count ballots due to outdated laws that prevent election officials from processing mail-in ballots until Election Day itself,” said Schmidt. This delay in Pennsylvania echoes the drawn-out counting process that led to widespread frustration in previous elections.

The situation isn’t limited to Pennsylvania. In Georgia, another battleground state, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has announced that overseas ballots won’t be fully collected until three days after the election, extending the timeline for when a final tally might be available. Raffensperger’s decision has sparked concerns among voters who are already wary of how the electoral process is being managed. The delays are expected to further fuel suspicion and discontent.
