A Democrat attempting to capture a key South Texas congressional seat is now facing mounting scrutiny after past statements and personal ties appear to conflict sharply with his campaign messaging. What began as a routine election cycle has quickly turned into a credibility battle that could define the race.
Bobby Pulido, a Latin Grammy-winning musician turned political candidate, recently secured the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Representative Monica De La Cruz in Texas’ 15th Congressional District. He has presented himself as deeply rooted in the region, emphasizing his upbringing and connection to South Texas voters. But newly resurfaced remarks and records are raising serious questions about where he actually calls home.
At the center of the controversy is Pulido’s own admission during a 2023 interview, where he described his cross-border lifestyle in blunt terms. “It gets hot here, bro. Like real hot – like real hot. I’m a summer Mexican,” Pulido said. “It sounds better: winter Texan. It sounds better to say, ‘I’m a winter Texan.’”
Those comments are now colliding with his more recent claim to national media outlets that he has always lived in Texas. Critics argue that both statements cannot be true at the same time, and voters are being left to decide which version reflects reality.
