James Braid, one of President Donald Trump’s most trusted Capitol Hill strategists, is preparing to leave the White House in September after playing a central role in advancing the administration’s legislative priorities through an unusually difficult Congress.
At just 35 years old, Braid has spent the entirety of Trump’s second term serving as the president’s legislative affairs director. His tenure has required him to work with a razor-thin Republican majority in the House while simultaneously dealing with a Senate where Trump’s agenda has often faced resistance, even from members of his own party.
Braid’s departure comes at a significant moment for the administration.
