Five Americans were among those killed Wednesday after a charter helicopter crashed in a remote and mountainous region of northern Kenya, according to the U.S. State Department.
The aircraft was carrying seven people when it went down at approximately 9 a.m. near Kirish in Samburu County, Kenyan aviation officials said. Details surrounding the other victims were not immediately released, and authorities have not yet made public a complete list of those who were aboard.
Among the Americans reportedly killed was José Suárez, a prominent NBCUniversal and Telemundo executive who spent years leading television operations in Florida. Suárez’s death was confirmed to employees by NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde, according to NBC News.
