A devastating runway collision at LaGuardia Airport has left two pilots dead and dozens injured, raising serious concerns about safety procedures at one of the nation’s busiest travel hubs.
Authorities confirmed that an incoming Air Canada Express regional jet, traveling from Montreal, collided with a Port Authority fire truck during landing. The impact proved catastrophic, killing both pilots on board and sending passengers, crew, and emergency personnel to nearby hospitals.
The aircraft involved—a CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Aviation—was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members, according to early reports. Officials from the office of Sean Duffy confirmed that the crew included a captain, first officer, and two flight attendants.
Tragically, both the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives in the collision. Meanwhile, at least 39 individuals onboard, along with two Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting officers, were hospitalized following the incident. Officials later reported that 32 of those injured had been treated and released, though several suffered significant trauma. Kathryn Garcia noted during a press briefing that some victims sustained “serious injuries.”
