Vice President JD Vance returned to familiar territory when he recently tackled a Marine Corps-style obstacle course — this time with his son alongside him.
For Vance, the setting carried more significance than an ordinary workout or political photo opportunity. Long before reaching the White House, he wore the uniform himself.
Vance served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007, deploying to Iraq in 2005 as a combat correspondent with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. His years in the service became an important part of the personal story he later recounted in Hillbilly Elegy.
