The battle for South Carolina’s open U.S. Senate seat is entering its final hours, and Republican Rep. Ralph Norman just picked up a potentially significant boost from one of the biggest names eliminated in the first round.
Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford announced Friday that he is backing Norman in Tuesday’s Republican runoff, giving the conservative congressman a high-profile endorsement just days before voters decide the GOP nominee.
Sanford captured roughly 15 percent of the vote in the August 11 special Republican primary triggered by the sudden death of longtime Sen. Lindsey Graham.
