Red Lobster is preparing to shut down one of its most high-profile locations in the United States, with its flagship Times Square restaurant set to close on June 14 after more than two decades of operation. While the company is pointing to ongoing construction and declining foot traffic as the official reason, the closure adds another troubling chapter to a chain that has been struggling to regain its footing since a chaotic bankruptcy filing in 2024.

The company’s explanation is straightforward: years of construction around 5 Times Square have made access difficult, visibility has dropped, and customer traffic has steadily declined. On paper, that explanation makes sense.
