Karl Rove is preparing to do something he says he hasn’t done in more than 30 years: vote for a Democrat.
The longtime Republican strategist, Fox News contributor, and former senior adviser to President George W. Bush reportedly told a private gathering in Austin that he plans to back Democrat Jon Rosenthal instead of Republican nominee Bo French in the race for the Texas Railroad Commission.
The announcement immediately turned what might normally be an overlooked statewide contest into another battle inside Republican politics.
