Cracker Barrel executives are back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The iconic Americana restaurant chain announced this week it is canceling plans to “modernize” interiors across all its locations—a reversal prompted by fierce backlash from loyal customers after a controversial logo change.
In a statement released Tuesday, the company admitted it is “continuing to listen” to critics who slammed the removal of Uncle Hershel, the beloved figure leaning on the original logo since 1977. The revamped design, critics said, drained the brand of its personality, replacing it with a bland, generic modern look.
Instead of the classic logo and homey interior charm, Cracker Barrel had envisioned a sleek redesign that extended to its restaurants themselves. That initiative, however, has now been scrapped.
