In a pivotal moment for election integrity, Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson has spearheaded the release of a critical memo from the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC). The memo provides a legal pathway for ensuring that non-U.S. citizens are blocked from voting in upcoming elections. This comes amid growing concerns about the role of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the State Elections Administrator, who have been slow to remove non-citizens from the state’s voter database, WisVote, ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election.
A year ago, the DMV revealed that nearly 300,000 non-citizens had been issued Wisconsin driver’s licenses or photo IDs between January 2019 and late 2023. Shockingly, these IDs are nearly indistinguishable from those issued to U.S. citizens, raising alarm bells about potential voter fraud.

The Wisconsin Legislature has been pushing the DMV for over a year to provide data on these non-citizens so they can be removed from the WisVote database. However, the DMV has repeatedly refused to cooperate. According to legal oversight provisions, state officials have a duty to prevent non-citizens from voting, yet the DMV continues to drag its feet on this critical issue.
