Ramaswamy echoed similar sentiments, blaming American culture for what he called a “preference for mediocrity over excellence.” He argued that tech companies hire foreign-born talent because of a perceived lack of qualified, driven candidates among native-born Americans.
These comments have drawn significant backlash. Musk, doubling down, declared he would wage a war on this issue “the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend,” even telling critics to “Take a big step back and F*CK YOURSELF in the face.” He has also called for Republicans opposing increased immigration to be expelled from the party, referring to them as “contemptible fools.”
Bannon’s Counterattack
Steve Bannon fired back during a recent episode of his War Room podcast, accusing Musk, Ramaswamy, and their billionaire allies of prioritizing profits over patriotism. “They’re gaming the system at the expense of American citizens,” Bannon said, calling for the complete elimination of the H-1B program.
Nicole Shanahan, a Silicon Valley attorney and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate, joined the fray, blasting tech companies for exploiting the program. “Let’s be real: tech companies getting massive breaks on cheap labor at the expense of the American way of life is predatory,” Shanahan said. She emphasized that blaming American culture for these hiring practices is “ridiculous and insulting.”
Trump’s Evolving Stance on H-1B Visas
Former President Donald Trump has also been drawn into the debate. In 2016, Trump criticized the H-1B program, saying, “The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay.” During his first term, he vowed to end its misuse as a “cheap labor program.”
However, Trump’s recent remarks suggest a shift. At a Mar-a-Lago event, he stated, “We need smart people coming into our country, and we need a lot of people coming in.” In a podcast appearance, Trump advocated for automatic green cards for foreign graduates of U.S. colleges, signaling openness to reforms rather than outright elimination.

A Call for Action
Bannon remains unwavering. He called for an immigration moratorium and proposed bold measures, including reparations for American workers who, in his words, had their futures “stolen” by foreign labor. Sharing an article on Gettr, Bannon outlined his demands:
- Eliminate H-1B visas immediately.
- Deport all current H-1B holders.
- Prioritize hiring American citizens to fill the positions left vacant.
- Convene tech companies to discuss reparations for impacted workers.
The debate has spilled over into social media, with Musk’s platform, X, accused of silencing dissenting voices. Pro-Trump influencers, including Laura Loomer, reported account suspensions and loss of verification after criticizing Musk’s stance.
As the battle intensifies, the issue of H-1B visas has become a defining test for the MAGA movement’s commitment to putting American workers first. Whether Musk and Ramaswamy’s vision or Bannon’s hardline approach prevails, the outcome will shape the future of immigration and labor policy in America.
