For years, conservatives have argued that America’s biggest media organizations do far more than report political news. Critics say many of the nation’s most powerful networks routinely shape political narratives, elevate stories that help Democrats, and minimize stories that could damage them.
Stephen Miller is now pushing that argument into a much more controversial area: whether major news organizations should receive special treatment under federal election rules when their coverage functions, in his view, like political advocacy.
The debate intensified after a recent media study examined coverage of the federal government shutdown fight. According to Fox News’ reporting on the study, ABC, NBC and CBS produced coverage that was more favorable toward Democrats.
