SCANDAL: $750K for Filling Fire Hydrants in LA?!

As the Pacific Palisades community faces one of the most catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles County’s history, another alarming issue compounds the disaster: dry fire hydrants. With over 16,000 acres already consumed by flames, more than 1,000 structures destroyed, and the death toll rising, firefighters are hampered by a failing infrastructure meant to protect the very lives and homes now in jeopardy.

Powerful Santa Ana winds, with gusts reaching 100 mph, have driven the Palisades Fire to scorch over 25,000 acres, leaving it at 0% containment. Nearby, the Eaton Fire near Pasadena has similarly burned more than 5,000 acres with no containment progress reported. These ferocious winds have also grounded aerial firefighting efforts, leaving ground crews to battle the blaze with dwindling resources.

As firefighters combat the raging infernos, they are encountering a shocking hurdle: dry fire hydrants. Rick Caruso, owner of the Palisades Village shopping center, expressed his frustration to The Times. “There’s no water in the fire hydrants,” Caruso lamented. “The firefighters are there, and there’s nothing they can do — we’ve got neighborhoods burning, homes burning, and businesses burning. … It should never happen.”
