A group of students at a U.S. military school in Germany staged a walkout in protest against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit, raising questions about the influence of political ideology in educational institutions overseas.
According to The Washington Post, students at Patch Middle School in Stuttgart left their classrooms for nearly an hour in opposition to the Trump administration’s decision to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The protest, though seemingly student-led, has sparked debate over whether young children in military communities should be engaged in political activism or whether they are being manipulated by outside influences.

Reports indicate that about 55 students participated in the demonstration, assembling in the school courtyard before returning to class. Video footage from the scene also captured a small group of adults, likely parents, gathered outside the school, chanting “DEI!” and booing as Hegseth’s delegation arrived. The presence of adults in the protest raises speculation about whether the students acted independently or were influenced by parental or external political agendas.
