In a fast-moving development that’s raising serious concerns about organized civil unrest, the FBI has arrested the man seen in a viral video distributing what looked like military-grade riot shields to agitators during a violent protest in downtown Los Angeles.
The suspect, now identified as Alejandro Theodoro Orellana, was taken into custody by the FBI’s Los Angeles division early Tuesday morning. He’s being charged with Conspiracy to Commit Civil Disorder under 18 USC 371, a federal offense. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on those believed to be orchestrating chaos in major U.S. cities.
“ARRESTED: Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was arrested this morning by FBI Los Angeles on an allegation of Conspiracy to Commit Civil Disorders (18 USC 371) for distributing face shields to suspected rioters on Tuesday. We are moving quickly to identify and arrest those involved in organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles,” announced U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli.
But this isn’t just any random agitator. Orellana is reportedly affiliated with the Brown Berets, a radical Chicano nationalist group with deep roots in far-left extremism and a history of anti-police militancy. The organization, which models itself after militant paramilitary outfits, has operated with revolutionary intent in U.S. communities for decades—and appears to be growing bolder.
