Muhammad Ali did not simply talk about standing by his beliefs. He paid an extraordinary personal price for doing so.
His refusal to enter the U.S. military during the Vietnam War cost him years of his boxing career, his heavyweight championship and his freedom. Decades later, Colin Kaepernick became one of the most recognizable figures in sports activism after kneeling during the national anthem.
Now, the Muhammad Ali Center has placed Kaepernick among its honorees, presenting him with its Humanitarian of the Year award.
