Heartbreaking: Army Reveals New Info on Fatal D.C. Air Collision

A tragic mid-air collision near Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport claimed the lives of 64 people on Wednesday night, including three U.S. Army pilots. After initially withholding her name out of respect for the family, the Army has now identified the third crew member lost in the crash as Capt. Rebecca Lobach, a 28-year-old aviator from Durham, North Carolina.

Lobach, along with Staff Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves, perished when their Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with a PSA/American Airlines passenger jet on final approach to the airport. The devastating crash resulted in the deaths of all 60 passengers and four crew members on the commercial flight from Wichita, Kansas.

The Army confirmed that Lobach and her fellow soldiers were conducting a training flight down the Potomac River as part of a mission linked to “continuity of government” operations when the disaster unfolded. The Black Hawk was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, a key military installation near the nation’s capital.
