Former Democrat lawmaker Eric Swalwell is once again under intense scrutiny as a fresh wave of allegations adds fuel to an already growing political firestorm. A new report from CNN claims that multiple women have come forward accusing the former congressman of sending explicit sexual content through social media, raising serious questions about his conduct over several years.
The report arrives at a particularly damaging moment. It follows closely behind Swalwell’s recent resignation from Congress amid separate accusations of rape and sexual misconduct. While those earlier claims already rattled his political standing, this latest development threatens to further erode whatever credibility he has left in the public eye.
According to CNN, the network spoke with more than a dozen women who described uncomfortable and, in some cases, disturbing interactions with Swalwell. These alleged encounters reportedly took place both in person and online, spanning nearly a decade. Several of the women pointed specifically to Snapchat as the primary platform where the interactions occurred.
Swalwell had previously embraced Snapchat publicly, promoting it as a tool to connect with constituents. In 2016, he told The Hill, “We can restore a lot of faith that people have in their democracy by opening it up a little bit more,” adding, “Snapchat is a great way to do that.” At the time, he was even dubbed the “Snapchat king of Congress.” However, according to the new report, what began as political outreach allegedly shifted into something far more personal and inappropriate.
