As Americans prepare to celebrate President Donald Trump’s birthday on June 14, far-left organizers are instead marking the day with anti-ICE demonstrations across the country. One of the more high-profile events, set to take place in Minnesota, is being sponsored by a union with deep Democratic ties—and it’s receiving large sums of taxpayer money.
The “No Kings” rally in St. Paul will feature none other than Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a progressive figurehead who’s become a reliable ally to left-wing protest movements. But what’s drawing real scrutiny is not just who is attending—it’s who’s paying for it.
At the center of it all is the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of unions in America. While many know the AFL-CIO for its open support of liberal causes and Democrat candidates, far fewer are aware that this same group benefits from a steady stream of government funds—channeled through a lesser-known entity known as the Solidarity Center.
The Solidarity Center describes itself as a nonprofit devoted to democracy and human rights. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find that this group has received at least $72 million in taxpayer funds between 2022 and 2023. Conservative researcher DataRepublican, who investigates ties between activist networks and government funding, was the first to publicly document the connection between the Solidarity Center and the AFL-CIO.
