With Sanders at her side, the duo railed against capitalism, wealth, and of course, Donald Trump. Ocasio-Cortez accused Trump of manipulating the economy for the benefit of his elite inner circle, saying, “It was about hurting retirees and everyday people in the [stock] selloff so Trump could quietly enrich his friends who he nudged to buy [in] the dip before reversing it all the next morning.”
Sanders didn’t hold back either, ranting about billionaires and fearmongering over Trump’s alleged influence. “Mr. Trump, we ain’t going there! We are living in a moment where a handful of billionaires control the economic and political life of our country,” Sanders said. He then claimed their little gathering would leave Trump and Elon Musk “very nervous.”

But the real earthquake hit back in New York — in the form of a bombshell poll that could shake up the Democratic Party’s future.
According to a new survey from the left-leaning Data for Progress, Ocasio-Cortez is trouncing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in a potential 2028 primary matchup. The poll shows AOC leading Schumer by a jaw-dropping 19 points — 55% to 36%.
That’s not a fluke. The poll reveals Schumer now holds the highest disapproval rating among all major Democrat figures surveyed. Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez sits near the top of the popularity chart, second only to Sanders and ahead of both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren.
This isn’t just bad news for Schumer — it’s a five-alarm fire for the Democrat establishment. Despite his long reign in the Senate, Schumer appears increasingly out of touch with his party’s energized base.
The poll surveyed 767 likely Democratic primary voters in New York from March 26 to March 31. Its findings cut deep into the heart of the left’s internal struggle — establishment politics vs. radical activism.
One of the most damning takeaways? A whopping 84% of those polled said Democrats in Washington aren’t doing nearly enough to push back against Trump and his MAGA movement. That number alone shows why Ocasio-Cortez’s popularity is surging among progressives demanding a fight — not more compromise.

AOC’s support spans virtually every group. Voters under 45 favor her by a massive 50-point margin. Even among older voters, she edges out Schumer. She leads among white, Black, and Latino voters, and performs better across all education levels and genders. The only demographic clinging to Schumer? Self-described moderates.
The poll didn’t just ask for opinions — it tested how voters respond to information. After being shown AOC’s biography and policy record, her favorability soared from +59 to +69. Schumer also saw a jump, but even at his best, he couldn’t close the gap.
Attacks on Ocasio-Cortez as an “attention-seeker” had almost no effect — only 14% found that framing persuasive. By contrast, criticism labeling Schumer a corporate-friendly insider who caves to MAGA Republicans proved far more effective. One-third of respondents found that critique “very concerning.”
“This poll really does show that Democrats are united in just wanting to stand up, wanting to fight, wanting to see someone taking a stand for them,” said Danielle Deiseroth, executive director of Data for Progress.
Deiseroth emphasized her group’s history of identifying weak spots in the party’s elite class. In fact, they predicted Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s collapse in 2021 — and they were right. Sinema is now out of the party and won’t be returning to the Senate.
Now, eyes are turning to 2028. Will AOC actually pull the trigger and take on Schumer?
According to political analyst Mark Halperin, if she does, Schumer’s political career could be finished.
“If she ran against him, I know exactly what she would say to try to beat him. It’s very hard for me to imagine how Schumer could come back because the way to try to beat her would be to go negative on her — ‘she’s inexperienced, she’s too left-wing.’ It seems to me that all that would backfire,” Halperin said.
“And so I think if she runs against him, he has to quit the race because I don’t think he can defend himself against her,” he added.
It’s a scenario that once seemed unthinkable — a junior representative toppling the most powerful Democrat in the Senate. But in today’s radicalized Democratic Party, where the loudest voices get the biggest platforms, nothing is off the table.
If this poll is any indication, Chuck Schumer might be the next casualty of the far-left’s rise — and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just might be the one holding the smoking gun.
