For years, Democrats insisted that Joe Biden was fully capable, energetic, and more than fit to lead the nation. That narrative was repeated across media platforms, campaign stages, and official statements. But now, as the political winds shift, one prominent Democrat appears to be acknowledging a very different reality—one she says she recognized all along.
That admission came from Janet Mills, who is now eyeing a U.S. Senate seat. Back in June 2024, following Biden’s widely criticized debate performance, Mills attended a watch party and publicly voiced confidence in the president. She told supporters she looked forward to seeing Biden continue to demonstrate “the same heart, determination, and vigor he brought to our conversation this evening.” At the time, that message aligned with the broader Democratic effort to project strength and unity behind their incumbent leader.
However, her later comments told a different story. In an interview with The Atlantic, Mills acknowledged that behind closed doors she had urged Biden to step aside. She even revealed she was among a group of Democratic governors who coordinated a meeting with the White House to push that very message.
