Following pressure from left-wing activists, Bishop Robert Barron calls for a boycott of the Los Angeles Dodgers after they honored the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence drag group during Pride Night.
When the team first decided to incorporate the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in its Pride Night celebrations, Catholic and Christian organizations objected. These arguments, however, were ultimately rejected. It is important to highlight that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence portray sacred images, such Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, in sexualized parodies while dressing as Catholic nuns.
The Dodgers modified their stance and will now acknowledge and include the group on the team’s upcoming Pride Night event in response to pressure from left-wing and pro-LGBT organizations.
“After much thoughtful feedback from our diverse communities, honest conversations with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and generous discussions with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Los Angeles Dodgers would like to offer our sincerest apologies to the [Sisters], members of the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families,” the team said in a statement, adding that the group has “agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.”
Bishop Barron urged Catholics and members of other Christian religions to boycott the squad in a video statement on Thursday. You should know that the Dodgers invited this group, which Barron identified as an anti-Catholic hate group.
Barron drew attention to a contentious Easter Sunday show that many Catholics found to be quite insulting. Many people found the exhibit’s depiction of a drag performer doing a seductive pole dance while standing on a crucifix disturbing. This behavior has been viewed as a startling betrayal of Catholic principles and values.
The Bishop continued by pointing out that comparable acts demeaning the Jewish or Islamic faiths would be met with outrage and repercussions. “How would people respond?Barron posed a rhetorical query. “Those questions, you know, answer themselves. But nevertheless it’s acceptable to insult Catholics in this most heinous way. Not just acceptable, but deserving of respect.
Then he urged Catholics in the Los Angeles area and team supporters to forgo their support. “Look, I threw out the first pitch at a Dodgers game a few years ago, and I served as an auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles for six years. However, I would urge my friends to avoid the Dodgers.
“Why are we tolerating this? We shouldn’t be tolerating it.”
