As Europe battles another deadly summer heat emergency, a senior Paris official is drawing criticism after appearing to blame Americans for the crisis while sidestepping growing questions about her own city’s preparedness.
The controversy eruped after Audrey Pulvar, Paris’ deputy mayor for international relations, published a social media post aimed at American commentators who questioned why air conditioning remains relatively uncommon throughout much of France.
Her remarks came during a period in which soaring temperatures were linked to a growing number of deaths and medical emergencies across the country.
