Kushner-Jeffries Meeting Raises Eyebrows

A private sit-down between one of President Donald Trump’s closest family advisers and the top Democrat in the House is raising eyebrows in Washington as both parties prepare for a consequential midterm election.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries reportedly met behind closed doors with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a longtime member of the president’s inner circle, for a wide-ranging conversation about issues where Democrats and the Trump administration could potentially work together.

According to The New York Times, the unusual meeting occurred at a private location in New York City arranged by a mutual friend. Five people familiar with the gathering reportedly confirmed that it happened, speaking anonymously because the discussion was not public.
