A former U.S. Olympian is now facing a serious federal charge after authorities accused him of damaging a high-profile restoration project on the National Mall—an allegation he strongly denies.
David Hearn, a 67-year-old Maryland resident and three-time Olympic canoe slalom competitor, was indicted by a federal grand jury this week in connection with an incident at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C.
The felony indictment marks a significant escalation from the original misdemeanor charge filed after Hearn was detained on June 19.
