Kamala Harris’s choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate was initially praised by mainstream media. Some called it a “masterstroke” in an effort to connect with working-class voters in middle America, particularly in the Rust Belt. But as time has passed, Walz seems to be losing his luster. Critics, including prominent figures in the urban media scene, have begun to question whether he’s helping or hurting the Democratic ticket.
One of the harshest critiques came from none other than urban radio host Charlamagne Tha God during an episode of The Breakfast Club. He wondered aloud what, if anything, Tim Walz has brought to the table for the Democratic Party. Comparing Walz to a lyric from Jay-Z’s song “The Takeover,” Charlamagne didn’t mince words: “Had a spark when you started, but now you’re just garbage.” The brutal assessment highlighted how many voters feel that Walz hasn’t lived up to the hype.

While Charlamagne stopped short of fully endorsing the sentiment, he made it clear that Walz’s impact was minimal at best. “I don’t think he’s garbage, you know what I’m saying?” Charlamagne noted. “But it’s just like, I don’t see the impact.” This lack of enthusiasm for Walz is starting to spread among Democrats who are already struggling to excite male voters in this election cycle.
