Former Democrat Turned Trump Intelligence Chief Steps Down After Devastating Family Health Crisis
One of President Donald Trump’s highest-profile national security officials is stepping away from Washington for a deeply personal reason.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is resigning from the Trump administration after revealing that her husband has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.
The announcement stunned many inside conservative circles Friday after reports surfaced that Gabbard informed President Trump directly during a meeting inside the Oval Office. Her departure is expected to become official on June 30.
The former Hawaii congresswoman, who dramatically broke away from the Democratic Party before backing Trump during the 2024 election, has become one of the administration’s most recognizable voices on intelligence reform, government transparency, and anti-establishment foreign policy.
Now, she says her focus must shift completely to her family.
In a resignation letter addressed to President Trump, Gabbard expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve while explaining the heartbreaking circumstances behind her decision.
