A customer wearing a MAGA hat walked into a Washington state Panda Express expecting to order lunch. Instead, he ended up dealing with police after employees reportedly called 911 over a thumbs-up gesture and a brief exchange about his hat.
The bizarre confrontation is now fueling outrage online and reigniting accusations that conservatives are increasingly being targeted for their political beliefs in public spaces.
According to reports, Chris Sims entered a Panda Express location in Lakewood, Washington alongside fellow streamer Danny Rebel while wearing a red MAGA hat. Sims later said one of the cooks behind the counter appeared visibly bothered by the hat and stared at him throughout the interaction.
What happened next stunned even the responding officers.
Sims reportedly gave the employee a thumbs up and asked whether there was a problem. The worker allegedly responded by pointing to the hat and saying, “Your hat.”
That exchange quickly escalated into a police call.
Employees reportedly contacted 911 and claimed the men were refusing to leave the restaurant. But according to Sims and footage from the scene, the pair walked out voluntarily and remained outside on a public sidewalk.
