The Supreme Court handed Texas another significant legal victory Monday, allowing the Lone Star State to keep enforcing its new age-verification law for app stores while an ongoing constitutional battle plays out in the courts.
Although the high court has officially wrapped up its regular term, the justices continue handling emergency requests and other matters that arrive on their docket. This latest order could have far-reaching implications for online privacy, parental rights, and the technology industry.
In a brief, unsigned order, a majority of the justices refused to block enforcement of Texas’ App Store Accountability Act, also known as Senate Bill 2420. The decision means Apple, Google, and other app marketplace operators must continue complying with the law unless a future court ruling says otherwise.
