“I don’t even remember what she said. It was a lot of eyes on us by that time, and the ball was already in his glove, and she wouldn’t stop, and I mean, I’m literally leaning back as she’s in my face yelling and yelling,” Faltwell said.
As the crowd kept watching, Faltwell had to make a choice. “I pretty much just wanted her to go away because I had a fork in the road: either do something I was probably going to regret or be dad and show him how to de-escalate the situation, so that’s where I went,” he explained.

In the end, the father decided it wasn’t worth a fight—especially with his son there to see it all. He handed over the ball, hoping to end the confrontation before things got worse.
Lincoln, the young boy at the center of the viral moment, also spoke up in the interview. While he wasn’t happy about losing the ball, he understood why his dad chose the high road.
“I wasn’t very happy that we had to give it to her, but we can’t win,” Lincoln said, summing up how powerless the family felt in that moment.
But there was a silver lining to the story. After the video spread across social media, baseball fans and even the Phillies organization rallied behind Lincoln. Both teams involved in the game stepped up to make things right.
Not only did Lincoln get to meet Harrison Bader—the Gold Glove-winning outfielder who hit the home run—but he also received a signed bat as a special gift.
What started as a birthday gone wrong ended with an unforgettable experience for Lincoln, thanks to fans and players who wanted to turn the page on what many are calling one of the most awkward moments in recent Phillies history.
