The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a huge win to former President Donald Trump, halting restrictions that had blocked immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles. In a 6-3 decision, the high court stopped a lower court’s order that tied the hands of federal agents carrying out raids under Trump’s immigration policies.
The decision temporarily lifts limits imposed by U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, who claimed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were engaging in what critics called “roving sweeps” across Southern California. Agents were reportedly questioning people at car washes, bus stops, and even Home Depot parking lots, often targeting individuals based on language or workplace type.
Judge Frimpong, an appointee of President Biden, argued in July that ICE raids were likely unconstitutional because agents relied on factors like speaking Spanish or doing day labor work rather than having solid evidence of illegal status. She ruled these practices could not continue while lawsuits played out in court.
