According to Rice, corporations, law firms, universities, and media organizations that have cooperated with or supported Trump’s policies may face consequences if Democrats return to power.
“It’s Not Going to End Well for Them”
Rice did not mince words about how she believes things will unfold.
“It’s not going to end well for them, for those that decided that they would act in their perceived very narrow self-interest, which I would underscore, is very short-term self-interest, and, you know, take a knee to Trump,” she went on to say.
She doubled down on that warning, repeating:
“It’s not going to end well for them, for those that decided that they would act in their perceived very narrow self-interest, which I would underscore, is very short-term self-interest, and, you know, take a knee to Trump.”
Rice suggested that Democrats are no longer interested in what she described as the “old rules” of politics. Instead, she hinted that a future Democratic majority would aggressively pursue what she framed as accountability measures.
“They’re going to be held accountable by those who come in opposition to Trump and win at the ballot box. And I can tell you, Preet, as I talk to leaders in Washington, leaders in our party, leaders in the states, if these corporations think that the Democrats when they come back in power are going to, you know, play by the old rules and [say] ‘Never mind, we’ll forgive you for all the people you fired, all the policies and principles you violated, all the laws you’ve skirted,’ I think they’ve got another thing coming,” Rice went on.
“They’re going to be surprised. Democrats have had a bellyful, and we’re not going to play by, you know, the old set of rules. We’re not going to be suckers … there will be an accountability agenda.”
The comments immediately sparked backlash among conservatives who view the language as confirmation of politically motivated prosecutions.
Trump Responds — Targets Netflix Board Role
President Donald Trump did not stay silent.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump called for Rice’s removal from the board of Netflix, questioning her compensation and demanding accountability.
“How much is she being paid, and for what???” Trump posted, adding that she should be fired or the company would “pay the consequences.”
The exchange underscores how sharply divided Washington remains, especially as 2024 election tensions continue to simmer.
A Controversial Record
Rice’s remarks arrive against the backdrop of a career marked by controversy.
She faced intense scrutiny following the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, which killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. As U.N. Ambassador, Rice appeared on multiple Sunday news programs and initially linked the attack to spontaneous protests tied to an anti-Islamic video. Subsequent investigations determined the assault was a coordinated terrorist attack, fueling criticism that the early public messaging misled Americans.
Rice also drew fire during the Russia investigation saga. As National Security Adviser, she requested the “unmasking” of U.S. persons caught up in intelligence intercepts, including members of Trump’s transition team such as Michael Flynn. Unmasking is a legal intelligence process, but critics argued it was used inappropriately during the heated 2016–2017 political environment.
In 2017, Rice sent herself an email documenting a meeting regarding intelligence matters during the final days of the Obama administration, a move that further intensified scrutiny from congressional investigators.
Political Temperature Rising
Rice framed her recent remarks as part of a broader conversation about consequences and governance. But for many Trump supporters, the language about revenge and abandoning “old rules” sounded like something far more ominous.
As the country barrels toward another high-stakes election cycle, statements like these are only likely to deepen partisan divides.
One thing is certain: the political temperature in Washington just went up another notch.
