Karoline Leavitt: “I Have to Share This”

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

The exciting family news comes after an intense and demanding period for the Trump administration spokesperson, who remained highly visible throughout her pregnancy while juggling one of the most pressure-filled communications jobs in American politics.

Leavitt’s maternity leave was expected to begin quietly in late April. However, events inside Washington quickly turned dramatic.

Although her final scheduled workday before stepping away was reportedly April 24, Leavitt still attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that weekend. What was expected to be a glamorous evening for political media figures quickly spiraled into confusion after reports of a potential active shooter threat disrupted the event and triggered security concerns.

The incident forced attendees into a tense situation as law enforcement responded. Leavitt was among those abruptly escorted out during the chaos.

But even after the frightening ordeal, Leavitt was not finished handling administration duties.

Only days later, she returned to the White House briefing room for an unexpected press appearance on April 27, where she condemned escalating political violence and blasted late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel during a fiery exchange with reporters.

Shortly afterward, she officially resumed maternity leave ahead of her daughter’s arrival.

According to reports from Politico, the White House has no plans to appoint a permanent replacement during Leavitt’s absence. Instead, administration officials — including Vice President JD Vance and possibly even President Donald Trump himself — could temporarily step in to conduct press briefings while she remains away from the podium.

Leavitt first revealed she was expecting a daughter back in December with a Christmas-themed social media post that immediately drew attention from supporters celebrating the announcement.

“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for – a baby girl coming in May 2026.☺️,” Leavitt wrote at the time. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth. 🥹.”

Throughout her pregnancy, Leavitt continued serving as the public face of the White House press operation, reportedly becoming the first sitting White House press secretary to hold the role while pregnant.

Her rapid rise inside Republican politics has made her one of the most recognizable young figures in Trump’s political orbit.

Leavitt and Riccio became engaged during Christmas of 2023 before welcoming their first son on July 10, 2024. Only days after giving birth to Niko, Leavitt famously returned to the campaign trail following the shocking assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.

Recalling the moment she realized she would be heading back into political battle mode almost immediately after childbirth, Leavitt said during a 2024 interview with The Conservateur:

“I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work,’ ”

That quote quickly became symbolic of Leavitt’s reputation among Trump allies as a relentless and loyal fighter willing to step into the spotlight during moments of crisis.

For now, however, Leavitt appears focused on family life and spending precious time with her newborn daughter away from the nonstop pace of Washington politics.

The White House press secretary has not publicly stated when she plans to officially return to the briefing room, but supporters are already anticipating her eventual comeback as one of the administration’s most aggressive defenders in front of the cameras.
