Critics exploded with outrage, accusing the former FBI chief of engaging in dog-whistle politics at best — and calling for violence at worst.
The backlash was so swift and severe that Comey deleted the post and attempted damage control. In a follow-up statement, he claimed the post was misinterpreted and insisted he had no violent intent.
WATCH:
“I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down,” Comey wrote.
His explanation, however, only raised more questions. Critics pounced on the idea that Comey merely “stumbled” upon a shell formation that just happened to align with a phrase commonly interpreted as a coded death threat toward Trump.

Even more suspicious, say critics, is the way Comey framed the message — not as his own creation, but something he simply encountered. To many, it’s a convenient cop-out.
Now, with public pressure mounting and legal analysts speculating about potential criminal exposure, the real question is: will James Comey finally face consequences?
Ed Martin believes the answer is yes.
Martin, who served as a high-level DOJ official, didn’t mince words when he predicted that Comey’s days as a free man could be numbered.
“He knew…” Martin said, suggesting Comey was fully aware of the implication of his post. And if Comey ends up lying under oath during questioning? That’s where the perjury traps come in, Martin explained.
While the Secret Service has not issued any public statement confirming an investigation, sources indicate that Comey is expected to be interviewed at the Washington Field Office regarding the post.
This wouldn’t be the first time Comey found himself in hot water. From the Clinton email debacle to questionable conduct during the Trump-Russia investigation, the former FBI director has spent the better part of a decade under the microscope — often playing the victim, always skating just past the line of prosecution.
But this time, the public appetite for accountability is stronger than ever. The idea that a former top law enforcement official would post such a message — whether veiled or overt — has rattled Americans across the political spectrum.
For Trump supporters, this is further proof of the deep-rooted rot inside America’s intelligence and justice systems. For others, it’s a sobering moment: if a former FBI director can post something so provocative and face zero consequences, what message does that send?
With Ed Martin’s bombshell prediction and the Secret Service reportedly getting involved, the walls may finally be closing in on James Comey.
One thing’s for sure: the days of smug Instagram posts and smug denials may be coming to a hard stop. And if Ed Martin is right, Comey’s next beach walk might involve prison gates, not seashells.
