The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took a blowtorch to the New York Times this week, calling out the outlet for trying to spin a sympathetic story around a convicted kidnapper who was recently deported back to Jamaica.
In a piece titled “21 Years Later, Deported Back to a ‘Home’ He Never Knew,” the Times attempted to frame Nascimento Blair, 44, as a victim of an unjust immigration system. What the Times conveniently left out, according to DHS officials, is that Blair is a convicted felon who spent 15 years behind bars for kidnapping.

Blair, originally from Jamaica, came to the U.S. on a temporary visa but overstayed it and lived illegally in the country for over two decades. In 2006, Blair was convicted of first-degree kidnapping after he abducted a teenage neighbor over a drug dispute. A year later, a judge issued a final order for his removal. Yet, despite this, Blair remained in the United States, thanks to the Biden administration’s soft-touch immigration policies.
