The Guardian Angels, a volunteer-based public safety group, was founded in 1979 during New York City’s infamous crime wave. Recognizable by their red jackets and berets, the group initially patrolled subways and high-crime neighborhoods to deter violence and protect citizens. Now, more than four decades later, the group is stepping back into the fray as subway crime spikes once again.
