Senate Majority Leader John Thune, often seen as a moderate voice within the Republican Party, is casting doubts on former President Donald Trump’s ambitious mass deportation plans. Thune’s remarks have sparked debate within conservative circles about the feasibility of Trump’s proposals, which aim to overhaul immigration policy and restore law and order at the southern border.

Speaking with NBC’s Meet the Press, Thune addressed the practicality of Trump’s promise to deport all illegal immigrants residing in the United States. When pressed by host Kristen Walker on whether such sweeping measures are achievable, Thune responded candidly, stating, “Is it realistic to deport everybody? I mean, there’s a lot of people in this country who are here illegally.”

Thune’s comments suggest a more measured approach to addressing illegal immigration. He emphasized prioritizing the deportation of criminals and individuals already flagged by the current administration. “Anybody who has committed a crime in this country clearly ought to be on that list,” he noted, pointing out that over a million individuals are already on the government’s deportation radar. “Start with that, and then we’ll go from there and figure it out,” Thune added.
