Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is once again fueling speculation about her political future — and this time, the question is whether one of the Democratic Party’s most recognizable progressives could eventually challenge one of its longest-serving Senate leaders.
The New York congresswoman declined to rule out a 2028 Democratic primary challenge against Sen. Chuck Schumer when questioned about her plans, making clear that loyalty to the party hierarchy would not necessarily determine her decision.
“I don’t think that my decisions would come down to deference,” she said. “I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.”
