Amazon workers just received a message that should send chills through every corporate office in America.

The company announced another massive round of layoffs in January, eliminating 16,000 corporate roles after already cutting 14,000 positions just months earlier.
But the real shock did not come from the numbers. It came from what Amazon’s top human resources executive openly admitted about the future of corporate employment.
Beth Galetti, Amazon’s head of People Experience and Technology, effectively confirmed that layoffs are no longer a temporary response to economic conditions. They are now part of the permanent operating model.

Galetti oversees Amazon’s global human resources operation, the same department responsible for informing thousands of employees that their jobs no longer exist.
In a memo addressing the latest round of job cuts across Amazon Web Services, retail operations, and other divisions, Galetti tried to strike a calm tone.
