Harris responded by claiming that Biden remains capable of serving as president, despite the growing public concerns about his cognitive abilities. “Can you say that you were honest with the American people about what you saw in those moments with President Biden as you were with him again and again repeatedly in that time?” Jackson asked.
In response, Harris defended the president: “Of course. Joe Biden is an extremely accomplished, experienced, and capable in every way that anyone would want if they’re president.” As for Biden’s widely criticized performance against Trump, Harris dismissed it, saying simply, “It was a bad debate.”
But Jackson pressed further, reminding Harris that Biden’s debate failure is “the reason you’re here and he’s not running for the top of the ticket.” Returning to her original question, Jackson asked, “It’s a judgment question, that’s why I ask. Can the American people trust you in these moments?”
At this point, Harris seemed to falter, reverting to her familiar talking points about Biden’s leadership abilities, which many critics argue are increasingly out of touch with reality. Her attempt to paint Biden as a strong, capable leader failed to directly address the mounting concerns over his mental fitness.

The Vice President wasn’t just facing questions about domestic issues. Harris was also grilled earlier in the week regarding her administration’s handling of the escalating conflict in Gaza, following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. During a press briefing in Detroit, Harris expressed support for Israel’s actions while also calling for peace in the region, a stance that has sparked backlash from the pro-Palestinian wing of her own party.
The reporter raised a critical question about the impact of the Gaza issue on Harris’s political future. “There’s a lot of churn and turmoil within the Arab-American and Muslim communities here in Michigan. Do you think you could lose the election because of Gaza and what. You know, overnight there were more strikes. 32 more people were killed in Gaza, some in hospitals. You know, how risky is it that you could lose the election?” asked the reporter.
Harris acknowledged the gravity of the situation but sidestepped any direct responsibility for the administration’s stance. “Well, it is undeniable that it is something that everyone is aware of. What is happening there,” she began, before recounting the tragedies in both Gaza and Israel.
Bold, Durable, and Patriotic: Trump Yard Signs Selling Out!
While acknowledging the suffering of Palestinian civilians, Harris’s comments seemed to lack a clear policy vision to address the root causes of the conflict. “I think what’s critically important as we look at this moment is one acknowledging the tragedy of what has happened in Gaza in terms of the extraordinary number of innocent Palestinians who have been killed,” Harris said, before pivoting back to Israel’s suffering, mentioning the killing of Sinwar and the massacre of Israelis on October 7th.
However, her response didn’t sit well with the reporter, who bluntly pointed out, “That is not working so far.”
Harris, seemingly caught off guard, responded with a generic and vague statement about the Middle East: “You know what? Listen, as it relates to the issues in the Middle East and in particular in that region, it has never been easy. But that doesn’t mean we give up, okay? It is always going to be difficult. It does not mean we give up. We can’t give up.”

With her answers falling short of clear policy commitments or concrete solutions, both on Biden’s declining health and the Gaza crisis, Harris left many wondering whether she’s prepared for the challenges ahead. As the 2024 election looms closer, the Vice President will need more than evasive responses to regain the trust of both the American people and her party’s more progressive factions.
