Elon Musk is worried about the probable effects Donald Trump’s return to Twitter for a hypothetical 2024 presidential bid may have on Twitter.
An unnamed GOP source claims that former President Trump is planning his comeback to social media after being silent for a while after the Capitol raid. He reportedly wants not only Twitter but also Facebook as forums for interaction since both of these sites banned him after the events in Washington, D.C., according to NBC News.

Elon Musk sparked controversy on Wednesday with a tweet that addressed popular rumors.
“Will be interesting to see how the Biden administration reacts to this. They may try to weaponize Federal agencies against Twitter,” Musk wrote. He didn’t go into detail.
The “Twitter Files” have shown that governments have a history of attempting to control what information appears there, despite Twitter’s attempts to assure that its platform is free of influence from other parties. This might happen again in the future, a commentator warned, so it’s crucial for users and policymakers to be on the lookout for any possible efforts to censor or silence voices in our digital public square.
“In all, the ‘Twitter Files’ paint a picture of a wide-ranging federal effort to exert control over the editorial policies of a major media company. The feds might be doing the same at other social media companies, such as Facebook and YouTube. And since the U.S. government has the power to make things very unpleasant for companies that resist, the temptation to comply may prove irresistible,” For the Boston Globe, Hiawatha Bray wrote.
“It’s all in the name of protecting us from fake news. But when our political leaders set the terms of permissible debate, how will we protect ourselves from them?” Bray continued.
Elon Musk tried to reassert former President Trump on Twitter on November 19, which was a thrilling event for many of his followers who were used to hearing from him often on social media. Despite Mr. Musk’s action, Mr. Trump has not said that he plans to return anytime soon; instead, he has found a new home in “Truth Social.”
On Wednesday, the Trump administration offered a glimmer of optimism for potential travel to resume in the near future. President Donald Trump’s office representative Liz Harrington made a suggestion that it would soon be possible to go back.
She first came across as unsure on the NTD-Epoch Times program “Newsmakers.” But as she started to speak, it became evident that she knew a lot about the subject at hand.
“We’ll have to see what happens,” she said. “I’m not here to make any announcement as of yet.”
She emphasized the importance of Truth Social while pointing out that Twitter may be a useful medium as well.
“We do know that Truth Social is doing incredibly well. There’s no shadow banning, there’s no censorship, there’s really hardly any bots on the platform. It’s a great platform for free speech. But we will see if [Trump is] going to return to Twitter and use it as an asset for the campaign,” she said.
“I think the more platforms, the better, the more open and free they are, and it is important to reach masses of audiences. Nobody has done it better than President Trump than the way he’s skillfully used not just Twitter but now launching Truth Social, which has been really such a success and important platform to have more voices involved, so that will continue,” she said.
Twitter indicated that it faced possible risks as a result of its public prominence even though the First Amendment is a cornerstone of American ideals. Harrington said that these “Twitter Files” made this danger clear to see. “has been under attack.”
“That’s something that’s so unacceptable. I think the more speech, the better,” she said.
Trump, she said, would oppose censorship.
“President Trump has already laid out his plan to curb the censorship regime — which is exactly what it is — and he’s going to be continuing to make steps to end that as well. We can’t have First Amendment if half the country is not able to speak freely,” Harrington said.
“It’s even more so than that, it’s not even a right or left issue. It’s an issue with all types of censorship on all type of viewpoints that are deemed ‘inappropriate’ by the censorship regime. That is very unhealthy for the Constitutional Republic. It violates our constitutional rights,” she said.
