Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is facing mounting political pressure from critics on both the right and within Democratic circles as questions surrounding her leadership continue to fuel a recall campaign.
The latest controversy erupted after Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson appeared to amplify criticism of Wilson’s handling of the deadly shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival. Ferguson, a fellow Democrat, shared a social media post from conservative journalist Ari Hoffman that sharply criticized the mayor’s response to the tragedy.
The July 26 shooting at Seattle Center left three people dead and several others injured. Authorities said gunfire erupted near the Seattle Center Armory during the popular festival, sending crowds fleeing for safety. A 15-year-old suspect was later taken into custody, while a 19-year-old believed to have been involved was among those killed.
