President Donald Trump appears ready to make a major decision at the Department of Justice, revealing that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is poised to become the administration’s permanent top law enforcement official.
Speaking before a private audience gathered at the White House this week, Trump disclosed that he has already settled on his choice to lead the Justice Department moving forward. The announcement came during a Rose Garden event attended by administration officials and allies, where the president expressed confidence in Blanche’s performance since taking over the role on an interim basis.
A video shared online by longtime Trump adviser Dan Scavino captured the moment the president informed supporters that the decision had effectively been made.
“Tomorrow I’m instructing Dan and everybody else that’s involved in that very complicated process, which is gonna go I think very quickly, that we are going to make him permanent attorney general,” Trump said in the video.
The move would formally elevate Blanche after serving roughly two months as acting attorney general following the departure of former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
For many Americans, Blanche first became a familiar face during the legal battles surrounding Trump in recent years. As one of the president’s most trusted attorneys, he played a prominent role defending Trump against a series of prosecutions that Republicans frequently described as politically motivated attacks designed to derail his political comeback.
