CNN’s Scott Jennings Eyes Senate Run?

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) officially entered the race last week, boasting a war chest of over $5.3 million. Meanwhile, former state Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who also served as the GOP’s 2023 gubernatorial nominee, began his Senate bid earlier this year with less than $500,000, according to campaign filings.

Both Barr and Cameron have consistently championed conservative values, though Barr’s longtime support of the MAGA agenda puts him closer to Trump’s orbit — a point not lost on Jennings, who signaled he’d step aside if Trump preferred another candidate.

“If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate,” Jennings told the Daily Beast, showing deference to Trump’s leadership.

Pressed on whether Trump would maintain his dominance over Senate Republicans post-2026, Jennings didn’t hesitate. He confidently declared that Trump would continue to be the GOP’s driving force well into 2028.

As highlighted by the outlet, major conservative figures like Donald Trump Jr. and Vice President J.D. Vance have already made it known they intend to have a strong say in who takes McConnell’s place. McConnell, increasingly seen as out of step with the party’s populist grassroots, has little sway left among Kentucky’s Republican voters.

Conservative businessman Nate Morris, a potential Senate candidate himself, blasted any lingering loyalty to McConnell earlier this year. “If you’re asking for a permission slip to run for office here in Kentucky from Mitch McConnell, then you shouldn’t be running in the first place,” Morris declared on X back in February.

Jennings’ potential candidacy carries an ironic twist: he once worked closely with McConnell. Both attended the University of Kentucky, though Jennings eventually pivoted away from establishment politics to become a vocal conservative commentator. His ties to McConnell, however, could raise concerns among primary voters suspicious of D.C. insiders.

Political operatives warn that Jennings would face tough questions about his relationship with McConnell. If Jennings’ fundraising efforts are linked to McConnell’s powerful donor network, it could spell trouble with the MAGA base.

“I can’t imagine Trump endorsing Jennings against Morris, even if Jennings is a good TV presence,” a veteran GOP strategist told the outlet, highlighting the difficult balancing act Jennings would face.

Despite that, Jennings’ friendship with Trump appears strong. Just last Tuesday, Jennings shared the stage with Trump in Michigan, delivering enthusiastic praise for the former president’s first 100 days in office — a reminder that Jennings remains firmly in Trump’s camp as the 2026 showdown looms.

If Jennings officially enters the race, Kentucky voters could find themselves with a clear choice: stick with the Trump-driven new wave of Republican leadership, or risk sliding back into the establishment politics they overwhelmingly rejected in 2016.
