In a stunning move, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has stripped a Milwaukee County judge of her duties amid serious criminal allegations. Judge Hannah Dugan is now barred from performing any judicial functions after accusations surfaced that she interfered with a federal immigration operation to shield an illegal alien from arrest.
The high court ruled Tuesday that Dugan would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge” while her criminal case proceeds. The justices said the suspension was necessary “in order to uphold the public’s confidence” in the court system.

Dugan’s troubles exploded into public view last week when she was arrested by federal authorities inside the Milwaukee County Courthouse. She now faces two felony charges: obstruction and concealing an individual from arrest. Following her arrest, Dugan appeared in court Friday and was released without bond. Her attorney told reporters outside, “Judge Dugan wholeheartedly regrets and protests her arrest. It was not made in the interest of public safety,” according to the Associated Press.
