In one reply to a user with just 184 followers, Musk finally backed down: “Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”
Just minutes later, Musk signaled openness to reconciliation after hedge fund titan Bill Ackman chimed in with this plea for unity:
“I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country. We are much stronger together than apart.”
The olive branch clearly didn’t work.
Trump Camp Fires Back Hard
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wasted no time issuing a fiery response to Musk’s wild Epstein accusations. Leavitt didn’t mince words:
“This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
That was followed by more pushback from a source close to the President, targeting Musk’s credibility head-on.
“Everyone knows President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Palm Beach Golf Club.”
“The Administration itself released Epstein files with the President’s name included. This is not a new surprise Elon is uncovering. Everyone already knew this.”
“If Elon truly thought the President was more deeply involved with Epstein, why did he hangout with him for 6 months and say he ‘loves him as much as a straight man can love a straight man?’”
It’s a damning timeline that raises more questions about Musk than Trump.
Musk’s Public Image Takes a Hit
A flash YouGov poll conducted Thursday evening showed Elon Musk coming out the clear loser in his clash with Trump—especially among Republicans. What began as policy disagreement has spiraled into a full-blown political disaster for the Tesla mogul.
CNN’s Dana Bash also got a personal update straight from Trump, who reinforced his disinterest in reconciling with Musk.
“I just got off the phone with President Trump. He told me he’s ‘not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem.’ (And, ‘I wish him well.’)”
In other words—case closed.
Final Word: Trump Isn’t Biting
Despite desperate attempts by aides and third-party influencers to mend the rift, Trump’s message is clear: Musk burned the bridge, and there’s no rush to rebuild it.
The President has a bill to pass. Musk has a problem.
One man is leading the country. The other is spiraling on X.
And for now, there’s no question who holds the upper hand.
