In a move that puts him at odds with much of his own party, Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine is throwing his support behind President Donald Trump’s aggressive new tariffs on Canadian imports.
Golden, one of the few Democrats in Congress willing to publicly embrace tariffs as a tool for protecting American industry, backed Trump’s decision to impose tariffs of up to 50 percent on more than $20 billion worth of goods from Canada.
The new trade measures came after negotiations between Washington and Ottawa reportedly collapsed, setting the stage for another major confrontation between the United States and one of its closest trading partners.
